1. That Lovely Color of Hair is Sadly Fake

Marilyn Monroe was born a blonde, but her hair turned more brown and "mousy" the older she got. She used peroxide to keep up the beautiful platinum blonde image.
2. She Didn't Really Know What She Wanted to be Called

Born under the name of Norma Jeane Mortenson, baptized Norma Jeane Baker, checked into hotels as Zelda Zonk, checked into a psychiatric hospital as Faye Miller, modelled under the names Jean Norman and Mona Monroe, and pitching her first screen name as Jean Adair, Marilyn Monroe didn't really know what to call herself. Or maybe she just liked changing up her identity every now and again.
But more humorously is the fact that during her very first autograph signing, she didn't know how to spell her own fake name! Though she got it legally changed to Marilyn Monroe in March of 1956 (after she was already a star), she didn't even know where to put the "i" in "Marilyn" upon signing.
3. Her Second Husband Kept a Very Romantic Promise to Her

During her second wedding, Marilyn Monroe asked her new husband Joe DiMaggio, famous baseball player, if he would decorate her grave with roses every week after she was dead. They divorced nine months later, but the feelings of lost love never went away. After her death in 1962, DiMaggio made good on his promise, sending roses to Marilyn's grave three times a week for twenty years. DiMaggio also never remarried, and it's said that his last words before his death were "I finally get to see Marilyn."
4. Marilyn has had Three Husbands

Though it's known that Marilyn Monroe married Joe DiMaggio, and then later the famous Arthur Miller, it is not so widely known that she had her first husband at sixteen, in an effort to not have to go back to an adoption agency after her foster parents could no longer keep her.
Saying that, her first husband, James Dougherty, was forbidden by his second wife from seeing any of Marilyn Monroe's movies.
5. She did More than Just Sing for the President

Her famous happy birthday to JFK came with a little sacrifice for Marilyn Monroe, in that she literally had to be sewn into her dress. She is also suspected to have had an affair with not just one, but two of the Kennedies.
6. Marilyn Monroe was Paranoid About Keeping her Face Clean

Fearing blemishes of any kind, miss Monroe cleaned her face over fifteen times daily. She also whitened her skin with hormone cream, one in thinking that it would give her that "porcelain doll" look (and boy did it), but also to hopefully bleach the peach fuzz she carried on her face. She refused to get rid of it, thinking it gave her face a soft glow on camera.
7. The Misfits Got Their Name Thanks to Her

Classic band the Misfits got their name from the title of Marilyn Monroe's very last movie, and even recorded a song named "Who Killed Marilyn?" based on the conspiracy beliefs that she was murdered.
8. Today is her death-iversary

August 5th, 2012 marks exactly fifty years that this beloved and beautiful actress left the world. Her death, and how it happened, is still shrouded in mystery. Some believe it to be a suicide, some murder, and others still come up with new conspiracy theories every day.
A suicide victim a week after Marilyn Monroe's own death left a note upon his demise, saying "If the most wonderful, beautiful thing in the world has nothing to live for, then neither must I." There was a sharp spike in suicides the entire week after Monroe's own death.
